Design Challenge 2 -Mobile App

19th April

Over the last week we have to find our audience (2 people each) for feedback of the apps. Using Grant mid fidelity prototype, this is the feedback i received

1. what do u like abt the app?
Simple to use, very useful, lots of information.
2. what did u dislike abt the app?
-
3. what othe featured do u want?
put a list of study rooms0
4. what features can be improved?
font color
5. would u use this app? why or why not?
yes, it would let people know about rooms that they don't know exist. People would learn a lot.

The team often communicate through our facebook page so any ideas that changes or added could be quickly pass to them.I was drawing a lot of design for the logo and icons for the app.

logo icon 1

logo icon 2
Shared this with the team and both prefer the 2nd icon. Trying to do a sublime messages of QUT(can you see it?). Although the group agrees on the second design, personally i hate it although it's was my own. I started to get more feedback from people. Most feedback i received was the same, either, "AMATEURISH" and "BAD". The best feedback tho was about the hand icon should be change in a different way to interpret"Take A Break" and so....

With feedback from user of icons design and i ideate it to make it more presentable visually.

Show this in the group facebook, Rahul and Grant agreed this is way better and we decide this is right one. Noted: Bhadjee never even reply once on his opinion even after i private message him

Reflection of the day: Excited on handling the design layout of the apps. Since we are going to use MIT shown by richard in the lecture, make me more hyped up to see the product in the phone. taking Rahul and Grant user feedback into consideration as well i replot the layout of the pages.

Design Challenge 2 -Mobile App

15th April [Team Meeting]

Grant, as promised presented us his mid fidelity prototype. Bhadjee did not attend the meeting again this is after he suggested we changed the day to tuesday instead of mondayand in the process wasting my time as i prefer the meeting to be on monday instead(dues to the classes i have). This is very frustrating as he hold the other mid fidelity prototype for this week presentation. We managed to get to him on facebook group and all  he said was he will show the prototype on the day itself. BIGGIE!

Grant explained on how the app work. Basically it is just a basic powerpoint page with the button linked to the next image(page) that act as the navigation of the app. We end the meeting by planning a few question for the targeted audience for preparation this week short presentation to the class.

Reflection for the day: I was really unhappy with bhadjee commitment and decide to tell the other members. Surprisingly all of us have the same feelings, just that we were worried our team marks will be affected if we decided to bring it to the lecturer. This is also due to that we do not know him well, and thought he would came for the meeting after HE SUGGESTED THE DATE TO BE CHANGE.

17th April

On the promised day Bhadjee show us his design for the mid fidelity powerpoint. It was really bad. A job that was obviously done in half hearted manner. All of us were waiting for his mid fidelity look because he was using the page i sketch in paper, so it would look more closer to the final design we were about to do. Since it is so bad Grant suggested that we just use his for the presentation and use bhadjee's as a backup.

Reflection of the day: I should have approached Rohan and told him our group issues. It is one of the things that i regret as this really impact on the work i have to do on the easter break.

Design Challenge 2 -Mobile App

7th April [Team Meeting]

On the 2nd meeting we discussed more in depth of our design layout. Eliminating pages that we feel is redundant. All group members were presented for this meeting. Over the weekend i bring back the layout from each member and compiled it into a sketch with the navigation of the pages. This is the objective for today meeting.
Segment 1. The plan

Segment 2. The plan(Cont)
Detailed drawing and arrows to show the navigation and function of each pages. Ideas from Rahul and Grant, feedback given from both lecturer and classmate was compiled on the 2 image given

The second part of the meeting, we discussed on how to show the class our new idea with our new low fideity prototype for this week class. Grant amazingly have created a canvas-type-phone and i volunteered to redraw this page in A3 format before the presentation.

Using users feedback and empathizing their concerns, the design prototype above shows clearly how i would go about addressing it.

Reflection of the day: After the meeting i believed everyone in the team have more understanding of the app, on how the looks and the functionality. Any doubts was clarified on this meeting and we look set prepared for the informal presentation this week.

10th April [Class]

The informal presentation went quite well. Personally i could have speak better but due to Bhadjee been late we have to switch around what we have to present. This indirectly affected the team presentation (luckily no marks were given >_<).

I also did minor changes on the pages of the app before the presentation, this is after some feedback from user that the checkbox(look at the top image) button would not work as it will cramped the pages after viewing it from Grant mockup phone.

Once the class was done, Grant said he will start on the medium fidelity of the app and Rahul will read on the requirements of the CRA, Team compact etc. Myself i have to do minor changes on the icons and stuff so that can grant can used for the medium fidelity app.

Reflection of the day: I do not want to sound bad but Bhadjee contribution have been very minimal for this past few weeks.I should have voiced out earlier but i feel as if the team seems fine with his involvement so far thus i am keeping quiet about it.
Really loved the method of traditional paper prototyping as i find it very useful.
For the app itself, things is going well and on tracked sadly it feels like we were working win 3's at the moment.
The wizard was saying in the last workshop prototyping is not just starting from scratch and redo things all over again, this process clearly shows what he meant. Even after i finalized the concept of the app and layout i still have the user to empathize and change accordingly to what that will fit in accordingly.

Design Challenge 2 -Mobile App

1st April 2014

Hooray our first team meeting!. That is what i supposed to feel instead i was greeted with a de-ja-vu experience of the previous group. Bhadjee failed to make it for the meeting.
For this meeting, after looking at our individual work as agreed in the class last week we decide on a few stuff for the class this week:-

  1. Decided to do the QUT app,
  2. Research on our user target group.
  3. App would be called QUT Break Time.
Why  we decide on this app? Our primary goal is mostly to help any people, from any any sort of life, any part of the world that is studying or visiting QUT to have a good experience and enjoy the cafe that is available here. Nothing is more frustrating when reaching a new country or places and you have to roam around aimlessly just to search for all this neccesities.

Reflection for the day: A quick brief meeting. We also discussed about the CRA and things that is needed for the upcoming class this Thursday, which is to short showcase of the app choosen.

[Class] 3rd April 2014

With the stand in lecturer, we talked about our choosen app and why we choose it. Once ready we presented the ideas to the class. Feedback given from were as follow:
  1. Ideas were good but we need to check for any similar app that was in the market.
  2. Words such as bathroom/restroom etc. should be replaced to an international icon for users that were not english savy
  3. One of our classmate suggested that we put a function of seats available to increase the app usefulness.
Short description of what have been happening for the week. Images are first work of the QUT breaktime logo.
Reflection of the day: Quite a hectic week. Feedback given was very useful indeed. Ideas given were really good and as a group we are really considering the 'seats available' function. I feel that
bhadjee could have contributed more on the group discussion, most of the time he would just sit and spaced out and i have to get him in to the conversation most of the time.

Design Challenge 2 -Mobile App

27 March 2014

We were assigned in group according to our colour, since i get a 'green' my other team members was consist of different colour scheme. The new team member are:- Grant (surprisingly the same as previous group), Rahul and the Bhadjee.

The first task is to came up is to with an idea of a mobile app either consisting of games or daily usage of an app and we decide to choose the later. We have to think of a problem, tackled it and presented it in a way how to solve the issue that was presented. Ideas were really coming fast...

showdown between the 2 ideas...
We decide to narrow the ideas to 2 which are:
A) A medical app which help the doctor or nurses in helping the patient and also a database of diseases
B) QUT app that design for coffee lovers, navigation and location of restroom and water fountains to help the new and international students
Ideas was rewritten nicely upon reaching home...
Upon reaching home the ideas were rewritten nicely. For homework, as individual each of use were to come up with the layout design, icons and the name of the app.

more design before the meeting..

REFLECTION FOR THE DAY: Really excited for this challenge. Have always wanted to learn and understand the method of doing an app. The team looks good and working with Grant again make thing easier (i hope ^_^).
